HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to grace the 14th National Youth Day celebration yesterday.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin in his capacity as the Chairman of the National Youth Day Celebration Executive Committee; Deputy Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw as the Deputy Chairman of the National Youth Day Celebration Executive Committee and other committee members.
With this year’s celebration themed Belia Siaga Masa Depan, the ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
This was followed with a welcoming speech by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports after which His Majesty consented to deliver his titah.
The minister in his speech highlighted the study review of the National Youth Policy which is in line with the resolution of the Youth Congress held last June which aimed to help the country’s youth to move towards personal success and impact significantly in the community and the country in the long term.
The Youth Oath was read by 52 youth from educational institutions, uniformed organisations, associations and clubs, alumni including youth representing Brunei’s seven ethnic groups led by Co-Founder and Executive Officer of Generasi Bekarih Muhammad Hanis bin Haji Othman and accompanied by Special Duties Officer II at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Muhammad Yusof bin Haji Abdul Majid and Education Officer at Tutong Sixth Form Centre Nurul Hadina binti Haji Alias.
Among others, the oath stressed loyalty to Allah the Almighty and the monarch, love for the nation, defending the country’s sovereignty and possessing noble and praiseworthy morals.
A video clip presentation produced by Creative Youth Group followed where it showcased the development and achievement of youth in the digital economy era, industrial revolution 4.0 and use of technology towards accomplishing Brunei Vision 2035 as well as the active continuous involvement of youth in the creative economic sector, social enterprises, tourism and sustainable development.
Special performances were showcased by youth reflecting the seeds of transformation in line with the development of the digital economy, rapid development of technological products and smarter automation system.
The preparedness of youth in developing the nation together in response to His Majesty’s call to move towards achieving Vision 2035 based on the Malay Islamic Monarchy principles was also translated through the performance.
The climax of the national event was the presentation of National Youth Day Awards in four categories namely Excellent Youth Award, Youth Service Award, Young Youth Leaders Award and Excellent Project Award for Youth where His Majesty consented to present to the recipients.
The Excellent Youth Award, Youth Service Award and Young Youth Leaders Award recipients each received a trophy, Kain Tenunan, appreciation certificate and a BND3,000 cash prize.
Awards were given in recognition and of their contribution and service to the country and youth development.
The Excellent Youth Award was awarded to Hajah Noor Monasalieana @ Suzie binti Haji Mohd Salleh, an entrepreneur and manager of seven local companies in the country and a member of the Young Entrepreneur Association Brunei (YEAB) since 2015.
Dr Hajah Umi Faizah binti Haji Abdul Rahman, founder and mentor of Syababul Iman Group of Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Sengkurong since 2012 and holder of PhD in Dakwah and Leadership was awarded the Youth Service Award.
The recipient works as a lecturer and curriculum coordinator at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali and received the award for her active involvement in volunteerism and helping youth development and other programmes including helping in Aceh, Indonesia.
Pengiran Salimatul Sa’adah binti Pengiran Mohd Salleh, recipient of the Young Youth Leaders Award is an Education Officer at Orang Kaya Besar Imas Primary School in Subok and the President of the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) since 2016.
The Excellent Project Award for Youth was awarded to Dart Logistics Sdn Bhd. The project offers a new platform for public transportation and job opportunities. Receiving the award comprising a trophy, appreciation certificate and Seed-Grant of BND3,500 was Founder and CEO of Dart Logistics Sdn Bhd Zul’Amali bin Dato Paduka Haji Idris.
Following the presentation, His Majesty and other members of the royal family proceeded to the main conference hall for a get-together session with the youth and view the exhibits.
This year’s main focus of the get-together was Entrepreneurship and Technology where the format was based on four main clusters of Sustainable Development, Creative Economy, Social Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.
At the main conference hall, His Majesty consented to sign the plaque and received a pesambah from the Executive Committee of the 14th National Youth Day celebration.
