Seven nations compete in Brunei veteran athletics meet

Some 300 participants took part in the Brunei Open Masters Athletics Championship 2019 at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last weekend.

The championship, which was held over two days, was launched by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Youth and Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said during the opening ceremony last Sunday.

Seven countries were involved in the competition namely hosts Brunei Darussalam, Sri Lanka, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Among the events contested were 3km and 5km walk, discus throw, triple jump, long jump, shot put, javelin, high jump and sprint.

The event was organised by the Brunei Darussalam Veteran Athletics Association with the cooperation of Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The Royal Brunei Police Force Band led the march past in the ceremony.

India emerged winners of the parade event and received a winners’ trophy from the guest of honour.
