RBAF Commander attends 2019 Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defence Conference

Royal Brunei Armed Forces Commander (RBAF) Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud attended the 2019 Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defence (CHOD) Conference in Bangkok, Thailand from August 26-28

Accompanying him was Director of the Performance Optimisation Centre Colonel (U) Pengiran Haji Mohammed Hasreen bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan.

The 2019 Indo-Pacific CHOD Conference was co-hosted by the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the United States (US) Indo-Pacific Command. It was attended by 33 chiefs of defence and representatives from the Indo-Pacific region.

The theme for this year’s CHOD Conference was ‘Collaboration in a Free and Open Indo-Pacific’. During the conference, the military leaders discussed the current security challenges faced by the Indo-Pacific region as well as the importance of alliances, increased communication and cooperation to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific. Part of the conference agendas included presentations by guest speakers who are subject experts on topics related to the conference theme, along with plenary sessions for CHODs to engage in open discussions on their common challenges.Meanwhile, the keynote address was delivered by Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The RBAF Commander also held courtesy calls with his CHOD counterparts to acknowledge the bilateral military ties between Brunei and the respective countries, as well as discussed future initiatives to further strengthen the professional relationship.
