All eyes were on the clowder of fluffy cats on show at the Cat Show Competition held at the Municipal Hall along Jalan Bunga Raya, Kuala Belait yesterday.

Meanwhile, Cheeky emerged top in the Maine Coon Category and was awarded with the Most Beautiful Fur, while Manja was crowned the Most Beautiful, Hiro the Largest, Si Putih the cat with Most Unique and Orient The Healthiest.
In the Mixed Breed category Miak was top again followed by Orient and Gray while Fiak, Wina and RosFahmi were among the top three in the Common Cat category. Meanwhile in the Siamese category the top three were Baby Pian, Manja and Si Putih.
Some 30 cats of different species and types were registered for the competition, organised annually by the Belait District Branch of the Women’s Institute (WI).
“The competition’s aim was to not only help foster closer relationship with cat caretakers and lovers, but also to showcase the efforts that went into taking care of the cats by their owners,” competition chairperson Hajah Julia binti Chee said.
She said the cats and their owners were able to compete in various categories.
These included the Healthiest, Most Photogenic, Most Unique, The Largest, as well as the coveted Best of the Best category.
“In addition, we also have four categories for various species of cats participating, which include Persian, Mix Breed, Common Cats, and Siamese Cats Category,” Hajah Julia added.
There was a lower turnout for the competition due to some of the cats being sick, Hajah Julia said.
“Hopefully we will have more cat owners registering and participating in the competition we plan to conduct annually, which not only allows the owners to spend time with their cats in meaningful ways, but also helps showcase their love for cats,” she added.
NurFarhana binti Abdullah Ajak, the spouse of the Belait District Officer presented prizes to the owners of the winning cats as the guest of honour.
