Super Squad, an online platform which hosts recreational football and futsal matches, announced the launch of the Super Borneo Championship 2019 in October.

Created by Respin Alpha Company, a local tech start-up based at the iCentre under DARe (Darussalam Enterprise), Super Squad is approaching its first anniversary in October, having served more than 3,500 football players and over 1,000 games in Brunei Darussalam.

A press conference on the Super Borneo Championship 2019, held at the BIBD Connects in the heart of the capital yesterday, was attended by Faezal Murni and Haji Sabri, the Co-founders of Super Squad; Haji Ibrahim Seddiqi Talib, the Director of Tourism Malaysia (Brunei); Nur Khadijah binti Abdullah, the Sales and Business Development Manager of Pan Bright Travel Service; and Edwin Ng from Red Bull Brunei.

Faezal Murni said, “With the support of the Tourism Malaysia and Sabah Tourism Board, Super Squad will be launching the platform at the Tun Adanan Sports Complex, Yayasan Sabah, which is deemed as one of the best venues in Kota Kinabalu, where it will host football and futsal games. This will allow Brunei players to play in Sabah and vice-versa, at their own convenience.

“In addition, a new leaderboard will be launched, where players can start to accumulate points, and special prizes will be given to the top players at the end of December. A bonus of more than 40 lucky draw prizes is to be won during the entire championship. Prizes include free hotels stays in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Miri, and many more.”

Haji Ibrahim Seddiqi Talib added, “The online platform of Super Squad is the first of its kind in ASEAN. This is a very good online initiative for Brunei in terms of creativity, where players can come together to have a game of football or futsal.

“Tourism Malaysia Brunei feels that this is an opportunity for us to bring Bruneian football players to Kota Kinabalu. Sports tourism is one of the segments of tourism products which Tourism Malaysia is focussing on. Malaysia has ample sport facilities for football, rugby, swimming, golf and other sports. We will also be offering interesting packages to Brunei players to spend their holidays in Sabah.”

Nur Khadijah said, “Pan Bright while offering packages for Brunei footballers to Sabah, will also offer packages for Sabah footballers to Brunei Darussalam.”

Faezal Murni said, “I’ve been playing football since young. But as I got older, I found it hard to look for fellow players. At one point, I was unable to play for months. That’s why I created this platform, so that people could come together for a game of football. It’s a 20-minute, fast-paced game with a referee.”

He added, “We have matches in RBRC and ISB fields almost every day, with more than 3,500 players and over 1,000 games.”
