Ministers get first-hand look into PMB Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Plant

The Pulau Muara Besar (PMB) Development Steering Committee and Working Committees visited the Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Plant at PMB and Single Point Mooring System yesterday.

The visit was led by Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar and Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Mohd Hussein in their capacities as the Co-Chairmen of the PMB Development Steering Committee.

Other committee members present were Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud; Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof; and Deputy Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw.

Also in attendance were members of the PMB Refinery and Petrochemical Project Investment Review Committee, Technical Working Committee, Security Working Committee and Welfare Working Committee.

The focus of the visit was for the PMB Development Steering Committee to witness first-hand the progress of the PMB Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Plant project.

The Cabinet Ministers meet PMB workers at the site

Upon arrival at the Serasa Ferry Terminal, PMB Development Steering Committee and Working Committee members were welcomed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd Chen Lian Cai. This was followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a safety briefing.

The delegation proceeded with a boat tour to view the Single-Point Mooring System (SPM), Pelumpong Spit, Eastern and Western Jetties. This was later followed by a tour to the PMB Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Plant to take a closer look at the progress of the project.

After touring the plant, the steering and working committees were invited to visit the Central Control Room and main Fire Station. During the visit to the main Fire Station, the committee met and greeted the firefighters and had the opportunity to inspect the facilities and equipment in ensuring its preparedness during a fire emergency.

There are currently 409 local workers directly employed under Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, with 50 per cent of the total workforce earmarked for Bruneians once operations begin.

Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd is currently focussing on completing their construction activities and is in the midst of commissioning activities. The project targets to complete commissioning by the last quarter of 2019.
