A Malaysian man was found guilty of assault by the Intermediate Court yesterday, which sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment and five strokes of the cane.

Judge Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar convicted Mohd Jaya bin Hassan, who previously denied having assaulted another man using a sharp object wrapped in cloth, on the morning of January 16.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Fitri binti Kiprawi has also established that the defendant had gone to the victim’s house that day, to confront the latter about an extramarital affair with the defendant’s wife.

The defendant then assaulted the victim on the head, causing a skull fracture that led to a permanent disability in the victim’s speech.
