Brunei Darussalam sent a message from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to the 40th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) held in Bangkok, Thailand. His Majesty’s message stated: “The theme of the 40th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly this year, which is in line with the theme of the ASEAN Summit this year, is timely, as ASEAN member countries strive to achieve ASEAN Community Vision 2025. Towards a sustainable ASEAN Community requires support, cooperation and sharing among all parties including legal body in ASEAN.

“In pursuing the vision of ASEAN Community 2015 in developing and expanding outside ASEAN, AIPA should continue to grow more constructive in its engagement, with more effective and enhanced cooperation between their respective governments, instead of only within the circle in ASEAN, but extending beyond ASEAN.”

His Majesty’s message further said, “Through the ASEAN Leader Interface with AIPA at the 34th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok this year, ASEAN leaders and AIPA have the opportunity to discuss ASEAN work at all levels and ways to enhance cooperation between ASEAN and AIPA. ASEAN appreciates the high level dialogue and strategic partnership with AIPA.
