Local man lands in jail for flange theft

A local man was sentenced to 11 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, after he pleaded guilty to charges of stealing 140 flanges from the company that employed him.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hajah ‘Adzimah Mukarramah binti Haji Salleh’s facts of the case revealed how Muhammad Khairusy Syakirin bin Haji Sirat, 29, had breached his employers’ trust.

The defendant, an electrical operator in the mechanical workshop, stole 50 pieces of flanges from inside a shipping container at 3am on July 29, from the company site in the Serasa Industrial Area.

The following day, also at 3am, the defendant stole 90 more flanges from inside the shipping container.

At 10am on July 31, the defendant was called in by his supervisor, regarding his actions which had been captured on CCTV.

The defendant immediately admitted to his wrongdoings, but the flanges, worth USD1,497.93, were never recovered.
