Labuan merdeka convoy continues patriotic journey

LABUAN (Bernama) – Thousands of Labuan folk yesterday kicked off the National Day celebration with a convoy of almost 100 vehicles winding their way through the streets of this island yesterday.

The convoy event and flag-hoisting campaign in celebrating the 62nd National Day were aimed at instilling patriotism among the people.

The convoy, organised by the Labuan Information Department, started from the Labuan Medan Selera (Foodcourt) at 9.30am before transiting Taman Damai Layangan.

It saw young and old astride motorbikes, and in four-wheel-drive vehicles and passenger vans travelling along Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Tun Mustapha and then making their round of the town waving the Jalur Gemilang and cheering.

Police escorted the convoy to ensure the event went on smoothly.

The convoy was jointly flagged off by Information Department Director Supian Musa and Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli who called on the people to uphold unity amid the various pressing issues plaguing the nation.

“We must not simply become armchair critics on any issue as this could worsen the situation, but rather continue rallying behind the government to stabilise the country socially and economically,” said Rozman.
