The Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) carried out a Korban ceremony at the Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque in the Belait District.
Organised by BSP’s Communication and External Affairs Department with the support of the BSP’s Junior Guidance and Counselling Support, the event is one of the many annual social investment activities by BSP.
BSP Head of HSE and Security Haji Osmera bin Haji Othman, as a representative of the BSP Leadership gave the Korban meat to Imam of the Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Akup bin Haji Lamat to be distributed to underprivileged members of the community.
Ya-Nur Trading Company Sdn Bhd also recently conducted a Korban ceremony at their Lumut branch.
Director of Ya-Nur Trading Company Sdn Bhd Shaikh Haji Khalid bin Shaikh Haji Ahmad; accompanied by his wife, Hajah Latifah binti Ambran; as well as staff members from Ya-Nur Trading Company Sdn Bhd distributed 400 packs of sacrificial meat to customers and residents.
In a separate event, the students, instructor and staff members of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Jefri Bolkiah Campus (JBC) participated in Korban and Aqiqah ceremonies.
Held at the campus’ surau, the ceremony is an annual activity organised by the school’s Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK) Unit. Acting Principal of IBTE Satellite Campus Dr Suhaimi bin Haji Abdul Wahab distributed the sacrificial meat. Also present were officers from the Belait District branch of the Islamic Studies Department (JPI).
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the sacrificial meat distribution.
Meanwhile the IBTE Sultan Bolkiah Campus (SBC), Seria; conducted Korban ceremony to mark Hari Raya Aidiladha. Dr Suhaimi as the guest of honour distributed the Korban meat. The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Mohd Hirmi bin Tahir, a staff member of the campus; followed by Korban meat distribution.
A token of appreciation was handed to the guest of honour by the staff of the campus.
In another event, executive committee members of the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) at Sayyidina Ali Secondary School (SMSA) held a Korban ceremony to mark Hari Raya Aidiladha.
Held at the school’s canteen, 222 recipients received the Korban meat, handed by PTA members led by Mohammad Noor Saiful Rizal bin Haji Yahia, chairman for this year’s Korban ceremony.
School Principal Steven Shim Sheau Huei was also present.
The ceremony started with the mass recitation of Takbir led by Syaeful Fahri bin Haji Sukri; followed by Doa Selamat led by Sherfini bin Haji Senin. After the distribution of the Korban meat, the ceremony concluded with a feast served for the attendees.
Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) also held a Korban ceremony in commemoration of the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.
According to a press release, the annual event jointly organised by the Religious Unit, Student Affairs Office and UTB Student Representative Council (MPPUTB), took place at the Concourse Hall of UTB.
Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of UTB Dr Hajah Noor Maya binti Haji Md Salleh as the guest of honour. Also in attendance were principal officers, staff, students and guests.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by mass Takbir and a religious talk on ‘Bersama Meniti Siratul Mustaqim’ by the guest speaker, Assistant Lecturer at the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Azman bin Haji Kassim. The event proceeded with the distribution of sacrificial meat.
Also celebrating Hari Raya Aidiladha, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through the Student Affairs Section in collaboration with the Student Representative Council held Korban and Aqiqah ceremony.
This year, 35 participants comprising officers and staff of UNISSA as well as their families carried out the Korban and Aqiqah ceremony where five buffaloes were sacrificed and the meat distributed to the less fortunate and members of UNISSA.
The guest of honour was Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, who presented the Korban meat.
The annual activity was held in tandem with the presentation of Excellent Community Service Awards 2018-2019 and the Excellent Staff Awards 2018, which were presented to recipients by the guest of honour.
The Excellent Community Service Awards are aimed at developing the creativity of students through carrying out community service activities, creating positive competition among students towards producing the best and most effective community service while also fostering a spirit of volunteerism among students.
Three projects were selected for the awards. The gold award was presented to the UNISSA Student Representative Council for their ‘Ramadhan Food Drive’ project, while the silver award went to the Faculty of Arabic Language Student Body for their ‘Anfiquu Fi Sabilillah’ project and the bronze award was received by the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Finance for their Program Ziarah Mahabbah ke 5 project.
The proceedings continued with the presentation of Excellent Staff Awards 2018 to 11 recipients in six categories.
Among those participating were academics and students as well as officers and staff of UNISSA.
