Khatam participants express their gratitude

A total of 1,708 mukim and village consultative council members and students from across the country took part in the completion of the 73 times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday, in honour of the 73rd birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

One of them was Siti Nur Aisyah Husna binti Abdul Rahman, a Year 9 Science stream student from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School, who told the Bulletin that as a first-time participant, she had to undergo some tests in Al-Quran fluency.

“It was a proud moment for me when I was selected,” she said.

Nur Suzairah binti Muhammad Supardi, a Year 11 student from Danau Primary School, also expressed her gratitude at being selected for this year’s 73 times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony.

“I hope to be able to join again, as it is a special pesambah for His Majesty’s birthday celebration,” she said.

Muhammad Hadi Luqman bin Bahrin and Abu Aqeel Abdul Afu, both Year 5 Asfar (Green) students from a secondary school in Belait District, also spoke of their happiness at being part of the 73 times Khatam Al-Quran, which began in May this year.

“We are delighted to have been part of it for the first time,” they said.

The Khatam Al-Quran ceremony is an annual event held during His Majesty’s birthday celebration, as an expression of thankfulness to Allah the Almighty for the monarch’s leadership that has led to enduring peace, stability and prosperity.
