Instil love for animals from a young age

The letter headlined ‘Set up animal shelters in every district’ in the Opinion page of the Borneo Bulletin on August 28 was very heart moving.

The paragraph which mentioned that the cat’s feet had been tied and apparently thrown into the drain no doubt shows the mentality of the person who did this.

We humans can speak up when we undergo suffering.

An animal is helpless and cannot say anything even when they undergo the worst of torture. How can we humans be so stone hearted?

Even when an ant stings us we grimace because it is painful. How would have this cat felt when its feet were tied and thrown into the drain? People should be taught to love animals from a young age. Having pets make people better adults. I think parents, guardians and teachers must instil in the minds of the children about the need to take care of animals.

A child who grows up caring and loving animals will grow up to be an adult who will respect parents, teachers, elders, the family, the country and the world.

I wish torture of animals as mentioned in the letter stops. We humans are civilised and should act civilised.
