The Continuing Education and Training Division, Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE CET) Open Day 2019 was officially launched at the IBTE CET building in Gadong yesterday.

Present as guest of honour was Acting Director of Technical Education of IBTE Dr Haji Md Zamri bin Haji Sabli.

The main objective of the event is to promote IBTE CET to the public as a learning centre offering various courses and programmes to encourage lifelong learning in Brunei Darussalam.

A press release noted that the courses and programmes offered by IBTE CET enable adult learners and school leavers to obtain or upgrade their knowledge and skills in various areas, such as typing, foreign languages and AutoCad, among others.

This is in line with Brunei Vision 2035 to develop Brunei Darussalam into a nation widely recognised for the accomplishment of its educated and highly skilled people measured by the highest international standards.

At the opening ceremony, the event’s Chairperson Siti Umi Rufaidah binti Mohamad said, “IBTE CET is not a new institution. It has existed since 1958. Before going through a transformation under IBTE, it was known as Bahagian Pendidikan Lanjutan (BPL). After the transformation of the Department of Technical Education to IBTE, BPL also went through a transformation and began using the name IBTE CET.”

The chairperson shared that the courses and programmes offered by IBTE CET have also gone through a transformation and a number of new courses have been introduced such as courses on fashion design, music, broiler production and more.

She noted that towards ensuring the courses and programmes fulfil the requirements of the public and industry, IBTE CET has also implemented the initiative of an Expression of Interest (EoI) form.

“Through this EoI form, the public can provide information on what courses they are interested in and what courses they hope can be offered by IBTE CET.

“An event such as this is hoped to raise public awareness on lifelong learning opportunities that are available in Brunei Darussalam, towards together achieving Vision 2035,” she added.

A variety of activities are available at IBTE CET Open Day 2019, including course and programme exhibitions, motivational talk sessions, baking workshops and more.

In addition, more than 30 food vendors are participating, with some of the vendors previous participants in the IBTE CET cooking programme.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the Open Day being held for three days from August 17 until August 19.

Yesterday’s opening ceremony saw the attendance of senior IBTE officers, stakeholders and sponsors for the IBTE CET Open Day.

The ceremony also featured musical performances from the Royal Brunei Police Cadet Band.
