The Magistrate’s Court yesterday retracted guilty pleas of a duo in a theft case.
Chong Jih Chau, 38, and Kong Kok Ming, 35, on August 24, 2019 pleaded guilty to stealing seven pieces of metal angles from the vicinity of a company site in Kampong Sungai Duhon, Kuala Belait, at 1.32pm on August 16.
Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabtu had fixed yesterday to hand down sentence.
However, the duo decided to claim innocence to the act of theft yesterday.
Instead of stealing the metal angles from the company site, they are claiming that they found the metal angles from a river nearby and thought it was scrap metal.
Hearing this, Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi retracted their guilty plea and adjourned the case to September 9, 2019 for trial dates to be fixed.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Aeny binti Zullizam prosecuted the case.
