Filming of new Brunei movie to begin tomorrow

Local production company, Origin Artistic, best known for their work in Brunei first motion picture Yasmine and Hari Minggu ke-4, yesterday announced the birth of its third movie Akademi, which will begin shooting tomorrow.

According to Director of Akademi Siti Kamaluddin, the action-comedy is set to be released by 2020. She made the announcement during a press conference at Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia (MIAA) yesterday.

The upcoming film centres on the friendship between five aspiring security guards in a mission to rise above all obstacles that lies ahead. It will run for approximately 100 minutes in Bahasa Melayu Brunei.

The cast line up introduced 100 per cent local talents including Yasmine protagonist, Liyana Yus.

Other main supporting roles include award winning actress Nadiah Wahid, Nasrul Nassar, stand-up comic Zainal Bostaman, Syafi Halim, Ian Zulkifli and Best Actor Nominee Shafiee Mostar.

Also making a cameo in the film will be veteran actress Pengiran Hajah Maskuin binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad along with other surprise appearance.

The film is also part of Origin Artistic mission to continue supporting local talents and promote international success; an initiator that started since its establishment in 2006.

“Through this film we are staying true to our mission to support local talent whether in front or behind the camera and (aim) to promote international success,” said the director.

Meanwhile, Producer of Akademi Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hajah Nurul Amal Munjiatul Athirah binti Pengiran Sura Negara Pengiran Anak Haji Muhammad Bey Muntassir added flare to the film by enlisting some of the most respected names in ASEAN film industries for the upcoming film.

Among them include Action Director Chan Man Ching (Hong Kong); Award-winning Cinematographer Rain Yamson II (Philippines) and Award-winning editor Marya Ignacio (Philippines).

“The local film crew will have a chance to be trained top professionals,” explained Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hajah Nurul Amal Munjiatul Athirah, adding the film “will find a special place in everyone’s hearts and we cannot wait to begin the production.”
