Cultural shows mark India’s Independence Day

The Indian Association of Belait (IAB) celebrated India’s 73rd Independence Day on Tuesday with over 150 residents gathered IAB Hall in Seria.

As part of the event, recorded telecast of Independence Day celebrations held in New Delhi was played, and speech delivered by India’s President Ram Nath Kovind on eve of Independence Day was read out to the audience.

IAB is also organising a Punjabi Folk Dance & Music Show today to celebrate Independence Day and has invited the community members to attend the event.

IAB regularly organises events celebrating both India’s and Brunei’s culture for its members.

Meanwhile, colourful cultural costumes, music and dances filled the Tarindak D’Seni of the Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre as the Bandar Seri Begawan Indian Association (BSBIA) held its Independence Day Cultural Programme 2019 yesterday.

High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam Ajaneesh Kumar was the guest of honour.

The event began with the singing of national anthem of Brunei and India, followed by a welcoming address by BSBIA Vice President Sujay Kamay in his capacity as the Chairman of the event.

He highlighted the determination and sacrifice of India’s national leaders in attaining freedom for the future generations.

The event also saw felicitations by the President of BSBIA Ravichandran and the guest of honour prior to the presentation of achievement awards to Hariram and Useni Hariram by the guest of honour.

In between the night’s cultural performances, Merit Certificates and Sponsors Mementos were also presented.
