His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) yesterday presided over the official launching of UNISSA’s 9th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj (Convocation Festival) at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, in his capacity as Chairman of the UNISSA Council; Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, as Deputy Chairman of the UNISSA Council; and Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, as Chairman of the Executive Committee for UNISSA’s 9th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj.
The ceremony began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa led by Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
After officially launching the 9th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj, His Royal Highness toured a gallery exhibition showcasing Islamic educational apps and entrepreneurial projects by UNISSA students, among others.
The exhibition bore the theme of ‘Memasyarakatkan Universiti’, which was specifically chosen to highlight the contributions of UNISSA students in their efforts towards realising the goals and objectives of Brunei Vision 2035.
At the same time, His Royal Highness also launched 27 new books published by UNISSA as reference material for students and members of the public.
Later, His Royal Highness received a work of Islamic calligraphy centred on Al-Quran verse 173 of Surah Ali ‘Imran, as a pesambah from Dr Haji Norarfan.
The event ended with senior officers and members of the UNISSA Council posing for a group photograph with His Royal Highness who also took the time to engage in conversation with the university’s undergraduate students and lecturers.
The festival is the lead-up to the university’s annual Hafl Al-Takharruj (convocation ceremony) for graduating students. Several events will be held throughout the 9th UNISSA Hafl Al-Takharruj, including an Al-Quran recitation competition among institutes of higher education, a leadership workshop, a Tadabbur Al-Quran workshop, a community services forum, a futsal match and a bowling contest.
