Competition unearths top Al-Quran readers

Abdull Muin bin Haji Abdul Hamid from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Dayangku Fauziah Nadhirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) emerged as champions in the Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran of Regional Higher Education Institutions, which was held in conjunction with the 9th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj of UNISSA.

They took home BND1,200 each, trophies and certificates.

Second place winners Muhammad Umar Syazuli bin Mohd Tahir and Siti Aisyah binti Baain from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia bagged BND800 each, trophies and certificates.

Third place winners Muhammad Nur Asymawi bin Awang Asli from Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) and Ning Majidatul Wahidah binti Haji Abdul Wahid Fauzi Sirot from Universitas Islam Malang Indonesia won BND500 each, trophies and certificates. Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman presented the prizes.

Seven higher education institutions participated in the competition this year, namely UBD, UNISSA, KUPU SB, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Universitas Islam Malang and Fatoni Universiti of Thailand. Organised by UNISSA, the Musabaqah Al-Quran is one of the efforts by the university to appreciate Al-Quran, embed in youth a love for Al-Quran and to unearth new Qaris and Qariahs.

Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MoE Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of UBD and Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB also attended.
