Brunei tug-of-war teams to compete in Malaysia

Local teams from Brunei Darussalam will take part in the Putrajaya- Kuala Lumpur 2019 International Tug-of-War Club Championships in both indoors and outdoors competitions from August 26-31.

The local teams that will represent the Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-War Association are EWC Tug-of-War Team, MB Tug-of-War Team and Chainblock. They will compete in the senior men 680kg category in the outdoor competition and senior men 600kg category in the indoor competition.

The EWC Tug-of-War Team yesterday left for Kuala Lumpur to take up the challenge.

Jointly organised by the Ministry of Federal Territories and Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Taekwondo Association (PTWPKL) in support of Sports Council of Federal Territories, Putrajaya Corporation and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the championships also attracted teams from South Africa, China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, Korea, India, Iran, Taiwan, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.

Secretary of the Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-War Association Pengiran Haji Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Jadid and Communications Officer of Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-War Association Haji Armi were present to bid the team farewell at the Brunei International Airport yesterday.

The opening ceremony of the indoor championship will be held on Wednesday morning at the Precinct 11 Neighbourhood Complex in Putrajaya and will be officiated by President of Putrajaya Corporation Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim.

The opening ceremony of the outdoor championship will take place on Friday morning at the Merbok Field in Kuala Lumpur and will be officiated by Mayor of Kuala Lumpur Dato’ Nor Hisham bin A Dahlan.

The competition is also recognised by the Asian Tug-of-War Federation and Tug-of-War International Federation.
