LANGKAWI (Bernama) – The body of a Pakistani man feared drowned while bathing at Tanjung Rhu beach was found yesterday.

Langkawi Zone Fire and Rescue chief Fadzullah Mohd Noor said the body of Haseeb Ashfaq, 30, was found at about 2.30pm at 0.2 nautical mile from where he was last seen.

“During a search and rescue (SAR) operation a team of firefighters, aboard an aluminum boat, spotted the body floating at about 2.30pm before taking it to the Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Control Post at Tanjung Rhu beach.

“The body was then handed over to the police at the Ayer Hangat Police Station before being taken to Sultanah Maliha Hospital,” he said when met at the scene.

Meanwhile, Kedah and Perlis MMEA director First Admiral Maritime Rozali Mohd Said said the operation ended at 3.30pm after the body was handed over to the police.

Haseeb, who worked in a restaurant on the resort island, came with three other friends to bathe in the sea.

The victim’s friends realised he was missing when they got ready to return but when there was no sign of him they reported the incident at around 10.22pm.
