Bangladesh observes National Mourning Day

The High Commission of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Brunei Darussalam observed National Mourning Day on the eve of the 44th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the high commission’s premises yesterday morning.

The day’s programme began with Bangladesh’s national flag hoisted to half-mast by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Mahmud Hussain.

The event saw the recitation of verses from Al-Quran, a one-minute silence in honour of the members and close relatives of the Bangabandhu family, and the reading out of messages from Bangladesh’s President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Foreign State Minister.

The morning session ended with a discussion on the lifelong struggle of the father of the nation Bangabandhu where discussants emphasised on the accomplishment of the dreams of the leader to catapult Bangladesh as a developed country by 2030.

A special prayer and Tahlil were held yesterday evening seeking blessings from Allah the Almighty, and for the peace and prosperity of the country under the leadership of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
