UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) renewed their regional strategic partnership network by inking a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia’s International Syariah Research Academy (ISRA) at a signing ceremony at The Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong yesterday.
The ceremony was held in conjunction with the 13th Malay Archipelago Syariah Scholars Dialogue (Muzakarah-13) that is held for two days starting yesterday.
Present to witness the MoU signing was Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud in his capacity as a member of the Board of Directors of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD).
Signing the agreement for UNISSA was Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, while signing on behalf of ISRA was its Executive Director Professor Dr Mohamad Akram Laldin.
The MoU signing will enable UNISSA to step up its strategic cooperation on Islamic financing issues via research with Malaysia. It is envisioned to help the university better achieve its core objective of delivering Islamic studies programmes in a more systematic and efficient manner, and improve academic excellence with regard to publications and research via modern technology.
It is part of UNISSA’s efforts to fulfil its mission of becoming a leading Islamic university with respect to propagating Islamic knowledge in line with global needs.
ISRA was established by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) as an Islamic finance and Syariah related research institution. ISRA also acted as a Syariah (fatwa) knowledge repository for Islamic finance and carried out research on contemporary issues as well as in the Islamic finance industry.
The academy was established to promote innovation and dynamism in the Syariah field through pioneer research and strict intellectual dialogue.
