OVER 500 participants signed up for the Brunei Classic 2019 Cycling Race Tournament yesterday, which tested their strength and endurance as they cycled more than 100km across the country.

The event was organised by the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Department, as well as event manager Tum2Cycles.

Chairman of the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul ‘Ali Yil-Kabier bin Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz flagged off the cyclists from the Silver Jubilee Park in Kuala Belait. The route took participants down numerous scenic landmarks in the Belait, Tutong and Brunei-Muara districts.

Participants crossed the finish line at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas, with the winners of each category receiving medals and plaques.

The tournament, opened to cyclists from here and overseas, was split into several categories: Elite, Masters, Veteran and Women, for varying age groups.

Each category offered the option to choose from the 109.717km route or 157.33km route.
