FIVE Year 6 students from various schools in Temburong District were announced champions for the Educational English Symposium for Year 6 programme, themed ‘Teen to Teen’, at the Sengkurong Primary School yesterday.

Working Group of Cluster 2 Haji Kairul Azhar bin Haji Rosli was the guest of honour. Headmistress of Sengkurong Primary School Rasimah binti Haji Abang, teachers and students from the participating schools as well as parents and guardians were also present.

In her opening speech, Rasimah said that the symposium aimed to provide opportunities for students to acquire some essential 21st Century skills including communications and problem-solving skills as well as to practise core values and attitude such as teamwork.

“It helps to promote literacy by providing our students with a positive goal to work towards and give them a forum to display their talent,” she added.

She also said that the symposium will help the students to improve their public speaking, learn to make decisions, voice out their own opinions, and develop the adequate use of correct English Language. It also helped them to be more comfortable in speaking the English Language publicly. The event concluded with a prize presentation ceremony and a group photo session.

The symposium will be conducted again at Sengkurong Primary School on July 13.
