S’pore delegation gets taste of Brunei

THIRTY students and five teachers from Concord Primary School, Singapore made a study visit to Haji Mohd Ja’afar Maun Primary School in Kiulap yesterday to learn about the culture, traditional food and games of Brunei Darussalam.

The Singapore delegation, led by Ee Peck San, was welcomed by Headmistress of Haji Mohd Ja’afar Maun Primary School Hajah Noraini binti Haji Timbang.

The group was then taken on a tour of several booths showcasing traditional musical instruments, Brunei wedding customs and traditional games and food. They also had the opportunity to taste different types of traditional Bruneian food.

The group also enjoyed a Mukun performance by Abdul Quddus bin Iran Rino as well as a Gulintangan performance by Sendaman from the Kampong Putat Village Consultative Council. Later, the Concord Primary School students viewed a reptile exhibition of Haji Mohd Ja’afar Maun Primary School’s Year 4A students, participated in various traditional games, learnt how to cook ambuyat, and took part in a performance.

This was the second study visit from a Singaporean school to Haji Mohd Ja’afar Maun Primary School, with the first being Bendemeer Primary School.

The trip aimed to expose the Singapore students to Brunei’s traditional customs and for them to share knowledge and experience with their Bruneian counterparts.
