VARIOUS activities were conducted over the past year by the Rotary Club of Belait, including visits to the Seria Old Folks’ Home and Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam to help the elderly and special needs individuals, providing solar energy for rural residents, assisting needy students in their education, raising funds for those in need during this year’s Panaga Highland Games, the Youth Leadership Camp held during the school holidays, as well as blood donations.
The activities were highlighted by the outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Belait Camille Chai in her speech at the club’s 54th Installation Ceremony and 53rd Anniversary Lunch at All Seasons Restaurant, KB Sentral Shopping Centre last Sunday.
“Regionally, our club has been in partnership with the Rotary clubs of neighbouring countries, and the activities that we carry out together include joint projects for medical missions to rural areas in Sarawak, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) to help further develop leadership skills while having fun and making connections with youth from other countries, as well as the World’s Greatest Meal, an initiative to help end polio,” she said.
Chai will be making way for Rotarian Patrick Lai following his election as the new president of the Rotary Club of Belait.
Immediate Past District Governor Henry Tan handed over a certificate to Chai following her speech as a mark of recognition for the achievements and efforts made during her time as president.
“The theme for this rotary year is ‘Rotary Connects the World’, and like what Rotary International President Mark Daniel Maloney, said, ‘all of us are in rotary together’, and this theme serves to provide inspiration to remind us to remain connected to our communities, especially to the people who need our help,” Patrick Lai said in his acceptance speech.
