A PREVIEW event for the Proton X70 was held at PAD Motors’ showroom in Beribi yesterday.
PAD Motors Chairman Tan Kah Boon and PAD Motors Managing Director Haji Hambali bin Pehin Dato Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Director of International Sales for Proton Lee Eu San, and other senior management staff of PAD Motors and Proton attended the preview.
Members of the media and financial institutions in Brunei Darussalam as well as potential customers and corporate buyers were also present.
“Since the launch of the Proton X70 in December last year, over 16,000 units have been delivered thus far, making it a success story for the Malaysian company,” Lee said in his address at the event. “The numbers account for a 47 per cent share of the SUV segment and has led to a 61 per cent increase in overall sales for Proton in 2019.”
The X70 is also the first SUV offering from Proton, and the first product to be developed with its Chinese joint venture partner Geely.
A few changes to the car’s external lines have however been made to differentiate the Proton SUV from its Geely counterpart, with unique Malaysian touches incorporated in the designs.
All three variants (Standard, Executive and Premium) of the Proton X70 are expected to be officially launched in Brunei in August, the first time the model is brought onto Brunei shores for the consumer market.
A notable feature of the SUV is an advanced Integrated Cockpit Information System offering multiple user functions including voice command, activated by using the catchphrase ‘Hi Proton!’
All variants are powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder petrol engine, which offers 181hp at 5,500rpm and 285Nm of torque from 1,700 to 4,400rpm.
Drivers can also choose three different driving modes: Normal, Eco and Sport.
Standard on every variant are six SRS airbags, rear seat ISOFIX with top tether anchorage, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Auto Brake Hold, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Hold Assist (HHA), Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS).
Additionally, the Executive variant is fitted with a 360-degree camera to make parking in tight spaces easier.
The top-of-the-range variant, meanwhile, is fitted with a suite of Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) to complement the standard fit items. These include Automatic Emergency Brake (AEB), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Door Opening Warning System (DOW) and Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC).
The Proton X70 has a five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating and has achieved some of the highest scores in the SUV segment.
