AN INDONESIAN maid was sentenced to four months’ jail after she pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to stealing cash from her employer.

Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran binti Haji Mohd Yusof heard form DPP Syazwani Jumat that 42-year-old Lestari Fathonah worked with a household at RPN Kampong Pandan ‘B’, Kuala Belait as a maid.

Sometime at night between July 4 and 5, 2019 she noticed an envelope on a table in the living room of the house and looked inside to find BND76.50.

Lestari then packed her bags and left the house through the back door and made her way to the Indonesian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam.

A household member noticed their missing maid which led to a police report being lodged with information that the envelope containing the cash had also gone missing.

Police investigations led to the defendant’s arrest at the Indonesian Embassy the same day.

The defendant used BND23.50 while BND53 remainder was recovered.
