THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered a 21-year-old Malaysian man to settle a BND5,000 fine, or serve five months’ jail in default of payment, after he pleaded guilty to the possession of smuggled beer.
The defendant, Richard, paid the fine.
The Customs prosecutor informed Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof that Richard was stopped on arrival at the Kuala Lurah Control Post in his car at 8.15pm on July 11, 2019.
An inspection on the vehicle led to finding that the defendant had in possession 24 plastic bags, each containing 12 cans of beer.
