Forum discusses Brunei’s economic challenges, opportunities

THE French Bruneian Business Association (FBBA) hosted an economic forum entitled, ‘Brunei Darussalam’s Economic Landscape: Opportunities & Challenges’ at the Radisson Hotel yesterday.

The keynote address was delivered by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah.

Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy), Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, members of the diplomatic corps, government and educational institutions and FBBA members and guests were present.

The event began with the welcoming remarks by President of FBBA Vincent Dutel, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew shared the government’s current efforts to create more economic activity, by increasing investment activities in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) and more foreign direct investment (FDI) projects, which generates business growth opportunities for local businesses and job opportunities for local jobseekers.

For the betterment of the economy and society, the efforts to secure more value adding FDI are being done to facilitate advances in industries by bringing in state of the art technology transfer, create quality jobs, stimulate innovation and competition among the local private sector.

This will allow local companies to better equip themselves as they look beyond the limited local market and export their goods and services, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew added.
