THE Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) cautioned the public against falling for the latest SMS phishing scam spreading across the country.

The SMS message, sent from 44777000111, tells recipients that their mobile phone number has been awarded EUR950,000 in the ‘2019 Pepsi Promotional Awards’ and informs them to contact “Dr Lucas” via email at [email protected] to collect the money.

The RBPF to date, has yet to receive any report of losses from the scam.

The RBPF requested the assistance of financial institutions and remittance companies to always ensure that their customers comply with the financial regulations for the transfer of monies overseas.

The public are also reminded not to transfer or send monies and reveal personal or account information to unknown individuals to avoid falling victim to scam syndicates.
