A DELEGATION from the Religious Ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS) has been urged to carry out all planning within MABIMS’ strategic plan framework, which will be jointly coordinated for five years on the principles of Maqasid Syariah in upholding religion, life, intellect, heritage and property.
This was highlighted by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof in his speech as Chairman of the MABIMS Secretariat Technical Committee Meeting 2019 held at The Rizqun International Hotel yesterday.
The permanent secretary expressed the hope that the delegates would develop several initiatives towards raising the economic conditions of Muslims in MABIMS member states.
He said, “Through this, MABIMS may become a model for other Islamic nations that possess a solid and united Islamic economic system. We can achieve this through initiatives that have an impact, during the preparation of the new MABIMS strategic plan.”
Following the meeting, the delegates attended a workshop hosted by the Muraqib Unit at the MoRA on the preparation of the MABIMS Strategic Plan 2021-2025.
They will attend a steering committee meeting on the publication of Tafsir Ilmi (the scientific exegesis of Al-Quran) from each MABIMS member state today.
The MABIMS delegates comprise Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang; Secretary for Research and Development, as well as for Islamic Education and Training at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Indonesia Professor Dr H Moh Isom; Deputy Chief Director of Policy at the Department of Islamic Development in Malaysia Hajah Hakimah binti Mohd Yusoff; and Deputy Chief Executive of the Islamic Religious Council in Singapore Mohd Fahmi Aliman.
The 18th MABIMS informal meeting was held in Bandar Seri Begawan last year, when Brunei Darussalam became the permanent connecting country for MABIMS from 2019 to 2020.
As the permanent connecting country for MABIMS, Brunei Darussalam through the MoRA will be tasked with the responsibility of coordinating any decisions and plans made during the MABIMS Summit and the previous Senior Officers Meeting (SOM).
