11 veteran athletes take part in Singapore meet

ELEVEN local veteran athletes have left the country to participate in the ongoing Singapore Masters Track & Field Association (SMTFA) Masters Track and Field Championship at the Home of Athletics in Singapore.

Brunei short distance specialist Haji Ariffin bin Abdullah has set his sights to emulate the similar success that he enjoyed in the recently held Malaysian International Open Masters Athletics Championship – in the 200m, 400m, 800m and the triple jump event.

His compatriot Captain (Rtd) Haji Osman bin Haji Lahab has been registered in the 100m, 1500m, and 5,000m as well as the long jump event.

The other Brunei participants are Haji Abdul Rani bin Haji Matasan, Haji Mohd Safri bin Haji Mudin, Pengiran Azizul Akbar bin Pengiran Haji Badaruddin, Musa bin Haji Mohd Untong, Hajah Aminah binti Haji Damit, Hajah Mariah binti Haji Metussin, Siti Diah binti Jani, Husna binti Abdullah and Alinawati binti Haji Aliakbar.

The team is led by Secretary of Brunei Darussalam Veteran Athletics Association Hajah Mariah binti Haji Metussin.

Sanctioned by Singapore Athletics and presented by SMTFA and Moulmein-Cairnhill CSC, the competition attracted both local and overseas athletes including from Brunei, Australia, China, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
