11 feted in graduation ceremony

A GRADUATION ceremony for the fifth batch of 11 scholarship students under the joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme of Hengyi Industries was held at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom yesterday.

Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad was the guest of honour.

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong and officials from the Ministry of Finance and Economy and Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry, and various faculty members and staff from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) were also present.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks by Chief Executive Officer of Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd Chen Lian Cai, followed by speeches from the Vice President of Zhejiang University Professor Luo Waidong and Chair of the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering Professor Shen Wenhua.

The event continued with the distribution of certificates to the students.

In conjunction with the joint Chemical and Process Engineering graduation ceremony, a collection of ancient Chinese paintings was presented to UBD by Chen Lian Cai on behalf of Zhejiang Hengyi Group.

The ancient paintings were sponsored by Hengyi Group and the collection was produced by Zhejiang University. This comprehensive collection is jointly compiled and published by Zhejiang University and the Cultural Heritage Bureau of Zheijang Province, and is the first large national publishing project that focusses on traditional Chinese paintings on paper and silk from the pre-Qin period to the Qing Dynasty.

A partial collection was handed over during the ceremony while the rest of the collection will be delivered to UBD soon.

The ceremony concluded with a speech by a representative from the fifth batch of Hengyi scholars Syahiirah binti Haji Abdul Wahab.

The graduating scholarship students recently accomplished 18 months of chemical and process engineering studies at Zhejiang University which included an industrial training at Hengyi industries petrochemical plant in China.

Following their graduation from Zhejiang University, the students will then further accomplish their final semester at UBD and six months of internship at Hengyi Industries.

Once they complete the programme, they will then be offered position at Hengyi Industries.

With the success of the joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme between Zhejiang Hengyi Group Co Ltd, Zhejiang University and UBD, Hengyi Industries announced that the scholarship programme has been extended for a further five years.
