Key policy issues discussed at Smart Nation Summit

MINISTER of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof attended the Smart Nation Summit, the highlight event of the Smart Nation Innovations Week held in Singapore from June 24-28.

The summit aimed to facilitate open and impactful discussion on issues and trends relating to digital transformation, a digital Asia, and trust in a digital age.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong officiated.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications, Cybersecurity, Strategy and Corporate) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, as well as officers from MTIC and Authority for Info-communication Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) also participated.

The minister joined other ministers and industry leaders at the Straits Digital Exchange forum. The closed session served as an interactive discussion where participants exchanged views on key policy issues and the role that governments and industries must play in ‘Accelerating the Digital Economy: Building Digital Readiness’.

The forum also discussed and shared best practices, challenges and success stories in areas of digital transformation of businesses and industries, workers empowerment, and building digital societies among others.

This included readiness in terms of equipping and reskilling the workforce and using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to solve problems help policy decision-making and enhancing the quality of lives.

Smart Nation initiatives and the nation’s readiness for the 4th Industrial Revolution were the key issues highlighted.
