THREE local men were handed jail and whipping sentences after they pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to theft and related offences.
Haji Hamdilah bin Haji Othman, 35, got 80 months’ jail with two whippings, Adi Munawar bin Haji Musli, 42, was handed 40 months’ jail, while Hazrul Azmi bin Mahmud, 36, received a sentence of 56 months’ jail with two whippings.
Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar heard from Deputy Public Prosecutor Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli that the trio stole from homes and a mosque in and around the Tutong District, causing inconveniences, threatening the safety and depriving people of their property, as well as making away with people’s cars in the Tutong and Brunei-Muara districts.
On one occasion, Haji Hamdilah hit his 71-year-old mother in the eye with a phone at their home after accusing her of reporting his activities to the police.
All the offences took place within October, November and December 2018.
