Trial fixed for Feb 18-28 in impersonating and cheating case

THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday fixed February 18-28, 2019 for trial to run in the case of a local man alleged to have taken advantage of an ill-fated man who was hoping to release his jailed son.

Earlier before 2018 ended, Khairul Ariffin bin Haji Alitadin, 41, entered pleas of not guilty to charges pressed against him by Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Emily Goh of impersonating to be an Internal Security Department officer and inducing the victim to pay the defendant BND400, BND500, BND720, BND1,600 and BND600 in different occasions from November 23-28, 2018 purportedly to get the victim’s son out from prison at Maraburong.

DPP Atiyyah Abas represented the Public Prosecutor in the case yesterday presided over by Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Md Yusof.

In September 2018, the victim’s 20-year-old son was sentenced to 24 months’ jail and disqualified from driving and obtaining all classes of driving licence for life, on a charge of driving dangerously and causing the death of a 13-year-old girl.
