Three Indonesians receive jail, whipping for immigration offences

THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced an Indonesian man to five months’ imprisonment with three whippings for entering Brunei Darussalam illegally.

Immigration Enforcement officers arrested Warsid, 43, during an inspection at the defendant’s rented quarters at Kampong Tanjong Nangka at 1.15am on January 15, 2019.

His passport showed he last exited Brunei on December 2, 2016. He admitted to entering Brunei illegally on December 2, 2016 through the jungles of Kampong Lumapas.

Immigration prosecutor Roslina binti Sapar prosecuted the case which was presided over by Senior Magistrate Azrimah binti Haji Abdul Rahman.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old Indonesian man was sentenced to seven months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to overstaying in the Sultanate.

Udin was arrested by Immigration enforcement officers during an inspection of the defendant’s rented quarters at Kampong Tanjong Nangka at 1.15am on January 15, 2019.

His visitor’s pass expired on April 11, 2015, and he had overstayed by 1,375 days.

Immigration prosecutor Roslina prosecuted the case, presided over by Senior Magistrate Azrimah.

Additionally, a 38-year-old Indonesian man was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with three whippings for overstaying in Brunei for 1,174 days.

Kayat was arrested by Immigration enforcement officers during an inspection of the defendant’s rented quarters at Kampong Tanjong Nangka at 2.45am on January 15, 2019.

His visitor’s pass expired on October 30, 2015.

Immigration prosecutor Roslina prosecuted the case, presided over by Senior Magistrate Azrimah.
