OVER 300 Expression Music Academy students gathered yesterday at the JIS Arts Centre to produce an exhilarating two-hour musical titled Leap of Creation 3.
The show featured six pianos played simultaneously, 100 violinists playing together, a 90-strong choir, the launch of original compositions by Eden Chiam and Even Chiam called So Run, and several other showpiece performances.
Prior to the beginning of the event, the audience enjoyed a teaser performance by the academy’s violinists and drummers, who performed at the Porsche vehicles displayed in front of the JIS Arts Centre.
Speaking about the musical, Expression Music Academy founder Lily Chiam highlighted, “The two-hour show brought the entire scope of performances to another level for the people of Brunei. The objective was to build students’ confidence when performing onstage and nurture their talents to prepare them to compete on the international stage.”
Chiam added, “We have been holding many competitions and our students have also won many competitions overseas. We would like to nurture Brunei’s talents to the international level. It can really channel their focus towards building their own skills rather than just spending time on gadgets. Learning music can help build children’s focus and discipline.”
Following the success of Leap of Creation 3, Chiam revealed that she will visit Taiwan to attend music festivals, and that “our students will be joining different competitions around the world. I’d like to convey my gratitude to the event’s corporate sponsors like Porsche, Steinway, JIS, D’Sunlit, R&T Electronics Enterprise, Sacammas Sdn Bhd, Home Suite Home and NBT,” she added.
