UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) held its first International Day celebration at its auditorium last Saturday.
The guest of honour was UNISSA Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal.
The event organised by the university’s Student Affairs Section in collaboration with the Student Representative Council aimed to strengthen ties between UNISSA’s local and international students from Malaysia, Singapore, Africa, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand, Palestine, Tajikistan, Dagestan and Cambodia.
It also provides the international students the opportunity to share with their Bruneian friends their unique cultures and traditions.
The celebration began with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Exco of the Religious and Spiritual Unit Ahmad Shafiee bin Aim.
The Exco of the International Affairs Unit in his role as chairman of the event organising committee delivered his welcoming remarks, after which a sharing session for the university’s international students was held.
The sharing session panel comprised Syazana binti Hussain from Singapore, Suleiman Ali Hamad from Tanzania, and Ahmed Mohammed Alhaj Ahmed from Palestine. Afiq Zikry bin Zulkifli from Singapore served as the moderator.
The celebration also featured a choral speaking performance by the university’s Thai students.
The event concluded with a Doa Selamat led by Ahmad Shafiee.
