THE revised ASEAN Guidelines on Good Regulatory Practices (GRP) were endorsed by the ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards and Quality (ACCSQ) during its 50th meeting from December 11-13, 2018 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
According to a press release on the ASEAN Secretariat website, the revised GRP guide was developed by the ACCSQ Working Group on Standards (WG 1) in collaboration with Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) – the National Metrology Institute of Germany.
It was shared that the development and finalisation of these guidelines were completed following three workshops held by WG 1 with the support of PTB Germany.
“The GRP guide aims at assisting the ASEAN member states in designing and implementing adequate regulatory approaches towards the preparation and application of technical regulations,” stated the press release. “The GRP Guide supports the reduction of technical barriers to trade within ASEAN through observing the approaches provided in the GRP guide.”
“It also helps member states in their international obligations under the World Trade Organisation Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade. Further, the guidelines support the foundation for the realisation of the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025 in the area of standards and conformance.”
The press release added that PTB Germany has partnered with ACCSQ and its working groups and has been working hand-in-hand under the scope of the project ‘Improving Quality Infrastructure in ASEAN’ establishing an integrated single market and production base with a free flow of goods.
