PMS sealed their progress to the next round of the Al Idrus Football League Championship after taking one of the automatic berths in Group ‘D’ following a 3-1 win over Manggis FC at the Bengkurong Field recently.
Zaini bin Tamit scored in either side of the half with Zepri bin Haji Ahmad joining in the act in the 48th minute.
The basement dwellers pulled one back through an own goal from Muaazasbri bin Haji Mohammad in the 54th minute.
The victory also lifted PMS to the top of the table and knocked SM FC outside the qualifying places though the latter only need to avoid defeat to join them against Mangellela Veteran FC this Friday at the Tutong Sports Complex.
ITF currently hold the second qualifying spot but completion of group matches meant that their fate is out of their own hands.
SM FC will top the group with victory and push current leaders PMS to second spot while a draw will mean they swap places with ITF.
Meanwhile in Group ‘F’, MV FT failed to bring the chase for a qualifying spot down to the wire after they slipped to a 2-1 defeat to AH United at the Jerudong Mini Stadium.
MV FT needed a victory to keep their slim hopes alive but a loss confirmed Stoneville FT’s – who played two days later – place in the next round without kicking a ball.
Abang Norsilmy bin Abang Taha played a starring role with a brace for AH United while Mohammad Jailani bin Haji Tengah’s leveller had kept MV FT in the tie.
Stoneville FT would have qualified anyway and spared MV FT an anxious wait after they hammered Mengkubau United 12-1 at the Royal Brunei Recreation Club.
Suni Mat Jerah bagged six goals during the lopsided affair while the trio of Alijanda bin Sitom, Haji Adam bin Musa and Sabtu bin Sitai netted a brace each.
The remaining fixtures saw already-qualified RB Veteran seal top spot in Group ‘A’ after a 6-1 win over basement dwellers Terazza FC while Azam FT edged Rimba Star 3-2 in a dead rubber in Group ‘C’.
