New SBC hosting schools appointed

AN APPRECIATION and appointment ceremony of new Subject Based Committee (SBC) Hosting Schools was held at Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (Maktab Sains) auditorium yesterday.

Acting Director of Schools Dr Hajah Zurina binti Haji Harun, the guest of honour presented certificates of appreciation to previous SBC hosting schools and appointment letters to new SBC hosting schools for the duration of three years from 2019 until 2021.

Thirty-one government secondary schools and colleges were assigned by the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education as a hosting school for a particular subject.

The ceremony was organised by the Academic Unit and led by the Head of Programme and Academic Section Sarimah binti Abu Bakar, with the assistance from officers from other units under the Department of Schools.

Also present were representatives from Department of Schools, Department of Schools Inspectorate, Department of Examinations, Department of Curriculum Development, Brunei Darussalam Teacher Academy, STEP Centre and Islamic Studies Department. During the ceremony, a briefing on SBC’s objectives and roles was presented by Academic Unit officers Hajah Malai Salbiah binti Haji Sheikh Said and Hajah Mahalizah binti Haji Ali.

SBC is a committee made up of secondary school teachers from government secondary schools and colleges, Arabic schools, and some private schools. The SBC provides a platform for the teachers to organise professional development activities, share teaching best strategies and practices and developing useful teaching and learning resources such as notes, worksheets and model lesson plans in enhancing teaching and learning according to the subject.
