MALAYSIAN Minister of Defence Haji Mohamad bin Sabu yesterday called on Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof during his introductory visit to Brunei Darussalam from January 22-24.
On his arrival at the Bolkiah Garrison, the Malaysian Defence Minister was accorded with a guard of honour comprising Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) personnel.
Both ministers reiterated their commitment to strengthen the existing bilateral defence and military relations and to enhance cooperation in both defence and military sectors through bilateral and multilateral platforms. Both defence and military institutions have collaborated at regional and also international operations, most specifically under the umbrella of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The minister also visited the Museum RBAF and the Defence Academy RBAF, where he also interacted with the Malaysian officers participating in the 9th Command and Staff Course. He also visited a number of cultural places including the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, the Royal Regalia Museum, Kampong Ayer, Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
The visit underscores the warm and long-standing defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.
