TELEKOM Brunei Berhad (TelBru) has completed months of fibre optics installation in Kota Batu, allowing more residents access to high speed broadband.
The initiative is part and parcel of TelBru’s wide reaching project that aims to connect over 5,000 homes throughout the country over the next few months, with manpower working round the clock to ensure residents in several areas can enjoy high speed Internet access. The project includes the replacement of ageing copper and new installations.
From today, hundreds of Kota Batu residents will have the opportunity to connect their homes to high speed Internet access. They can also take advantage of TelBru’s ongoing Zero Start-Up promotion until January 31, with 15 Internet packages to choose from starting with minimum speeds of 10Mbps.
“This successful village-wide connectivity transformation joins thousands of those already connected to this seamless technology, alongside the deployment of alternative technology that has been used to deliver service to geographically challenging areas such as homes in Kampong Ayer, where Fixed Wireless Technology is now used,” the company said.
Over the next few months, TelBru will announce more areas where fibre technology will be made available, including several more residential areas in the Brunei-Muara and Temburong districts as well as an industrial site in Seria, as TelBru continues to plan its fibre network expansion.
With the growth of highspeed Internet in the country, TelBru hopes to indirectly contribute to the economic growth of the Brunei people through increased access to business opportunities, education and communication to the rest of the world.
Studies have shown that for every 10 per cent FTTH penetration to citizens, this has the potential to increase a country’s GDP between 0.9 – 1.5 per cent through increased productivity at home and at work.
