HIS Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel joined 70 fellow Frogmouth students from middle years and upper years of Jerudong International School (JIS) yesterday afternoon for a fun-filled social trip to Jerudong Park, organised by Frogmouth House and its sister-house, Sandpiper House.
The aim of the trip was to build upon and further develop the supportive structure and bond between the upper years and middle years’ students in the Senior School.
At JIS, the senior students (Years 7-13) are allocated into one of the 16 houses. Each ‘House’ is actually a community or big family of students. There are eight boys’ and eight girls’ houses.
Named after the birds of Borneo, all 16 houses participate throughout the academic year in friendly yet competitive inter-house competitions such as the debating tournament, War of Words, House Football, House Netball and Tug of War tournaments to win the esteemed House Cup. All houses encourage all their students to participate to earn points for their houses. Each house has a leadership structure providing wonderful opportunities for the students to flourish.
Housemaster of Frogmouth House Ralph Morel added, “the art of creating opportunities for integration and developing friendships comes from such shared experiences outside the classroom. With many opportunities such as this throughout the year, it enables us to create a culture of mentoring and a strong bond between our Houses, especially when we come together in the academic Joint House Competitions.”
