THE Belait District Office, together with the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Department, has urged all dog owners to renew or apply for their annual licences and tags before February 1.
This applies to newly-acquired dogs or those with expired licences. All dogs aged three months and above must be registered at the payment counter on the ground floor of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Department. The counter is open at 7.30am until 12 noon and 1.30pm to 3pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and at 8am to 10am on Saturdays.
Registered or licensed dogs are required to wear a special tag issued by the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Department. The regulation also requires for the dogs to be confined to kennels or cages, or enclosed within their owners’ home compounds. Under Dogs Act, Chapter 60, Section (4) and (5), those who fail to register their dogs will receive a fine of BND250, or 14 days in prison. For second-time offenders, the penalty is a fine of BND500, or one month in prison.
Meanwhile, owners of registered dogs without tags are guilty of an offence which is punishable by a fine of BND250, or one month in prison.
