A FAMILY outing at Berakas Beach yesterday turned tragic after one of the members went missing while swimming late in the afternoon.

The victim was confirmed to be a 15-year-old Filipino male. Despite the bad weather and strong currents, a search and rescue was conducted to find the missing teenager.

Two other similar drowning-related incidents also occurred yesterday afternoon.

At Muara Beach, two Indonesian males were swept away by the currents but were fortunately saved by members of the public, while a 25-year-old Indonesian male was reported missing while swimming at Tungku Beach, Jerudong.

Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department were involved in the search effort at Berakas Beach yesterday.

The public are advised to stay safe, and be more aware of the latest weather situation and tide and rip current conditions.

They are also encouraged to download the National Disaster Management Centre’s ‘Safety Guide’ basic emergency guide app from the Google Play Store.

For emergencies, the public should call the Fire and Rescue Department at 995 or the 123 Darussalam Hotline.
