PUTRAJAYA (Bernama) – About 2,000 local and international chefs are set to pit their skills against each other at the World Chefs Championship this December at Stadium Sultan Abdul Halim in Alor Setar, Kedah.
The competition to be held from December 13-15 is organised by the Malaysia Culinary Masters Association and sponsored by the VESTA International Culinary Group, is also scheduled to enter the Malaysia Book of Records for featuring the highest number of cooking categories (14 in the competition) and judges (69).
VESTA Chief Executive Officer Yap Bok Tuck said about 300 contestants had already signed up, and they included individuals from Thailand, Taiwan, China and Singapore.
Speaking to the media after the event’s soft launch yesterday, Yap said contestants were required to use agricultural produce in their cooking and compete in all 14 cooking categories which include patisserie, dim sum, Malay traditional kueh, and Japanese cuisine.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Salahuddin Ayub launched the event yesterday.
